Chris Burns

CEO of CRB Consulting Group

Chris has 35+ years of leadership in the healthcare, insurance, digital health and insurtech industries. He has lived and held executive positions on 4 continents with responsibility for U.S., Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Middle East/Africa. During his career, he has demonstrated success in executing strategy, profitable revenue growth, leading large-scale business transformation in complex environments as well as experience working in Silicon Valley in the technology industry.  Chris also has significant experience in the development of successful sales and revenue growth strategies and leading deployment of high performing sales teams in the large, mid and small markets on a national and global basis.

He has held executive leadership and P&L responsibility with large global brands such as Willis, Cigna, and AIG, fast growing privately held firms including Sequoia Consulting Group and Vertus Consulting as well as start-up experience with Vida Health – a virtual platform for physical and mental health.

He is currently CEO of CRB Consulting Group based in Plano, Texas providing advisory and consulting services to employers, insurers, digital health and insurtech organizations in the U.S. and globally.

Previous to establishing his own firm, Chris was a Partner at Vertus Consulting, based in Plano, Texas. Vertus is a national employee benefits and healthcare consulting firm as well as a member of the WBN network operating in over 100 countries around the world. Vertus was acquired by Alliant Insurance Services in December, 2020.

Previously to Vertus, Chris served as VP, Sales at Vida Health in San Francisco. Vida is a digital therapeutics platform that integrates coaching for wellness, chronic conditions and mental health. As a member of the leadership team, he had overall responsibility for development of a national strategy to build significant momentum in the chronic care and mental health sectors including sales to employers, payers, providers and development of key partnerships.

Prior to Vida, Chris was Managing Director at Sequoia Consulting Group in San Mateo, Ca. Sequoia is a national, full-service employee benefit and insurance consulting firm. In this role he was responsible for overall management of the firm including turning around poor performing areas such as client service/retention, launching a PEO for the small market, building a new global capability, developing a strategy for faster growth and leading the firm from a regional to a national and global player. Responsibilities included direct management of all consultant teams including sales, client service, retirement, risk management and global.   Clients included Uber, Airbnb, Palantir, Dropbox, Lyft, Snap and many other well-known and fast growing technology firms.

Prior to Sequoia, Chris served at the Willis Group in New York City as CEO for the Employee Benefits Division. This included over $500 Million in revenue and 3,000 employees in the U.S. and around the world. With a central focus on accelerating the top and bottom lines, he built consensus with the Willis CEO and Board on a comprehensive strategy to attain $1 Billion in revenue within 5 years. As CEO, Chris also had responsibility for all U.S. and global M&A, joint ventures and partnerships for Willis in the Employee Benefits sector.

Earlier in his career, Chris held leadership positions abroad for 12 years including Cigna in Athens with responsibility for Greece, Middle East/Africa, Cigna in Rio de Janeiro with responsibility for Brazil and at AIG in London with responsibility for the U.K. and Europe.

Chris is an Adviser to Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, Ca. He also serves on the Boards of several privately held firms in the healthcare, digital health and insurtech sectors.

He is a past member of the U.S. and Global Advisory Boards for Cigna, United Healthcare and Anthem/BUPA.

Chris holds a BA degree in economics & history from Boston College. He is a frequent speaker and writer on healthcare topics.
